Basketball Recap: Orange Starts Season with Win on the Road

Orange had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 42-29 win over the Riverside-Durham Pirates. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Pirates: they've now won five in a row.

Orange's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Natalie Roberson, who posted six points in addition to eight boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Roberson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kassidy Tolliver, who had ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Several Pirates players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Beck Arrendondo, who scored ten points. Another player making a difference was Au'Nehstii Hagans, who earned nine points.

Riverside-Durham is on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Orange will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Person at 6:00 p.m. on the 3rd. As for Riverside-Durham, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-18 loss against Heritage on the 22nd.
