Baseball Game Preview: Edwardsburg Eddies vs. Mishawaka Marian Knights

The Edwardsburg Eddies will venture away from home to square off against the Mishawaka Marian Knights at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Edwardsburg and Three Rivers have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Eddies were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Wildcats. The Eddies not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 10th (when they won 12-0).

Mishawaka Marian came out on top against South Bend Washington on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Knights' pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers an 11-0 shutout. With that win, the Knights brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

Jack Nunley was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. Nunley was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Brady Nitz was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Ashton Eaton also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Mishawaka Marian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for Edwardsburg, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 10-9 record.

Edwardsburg suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Mishawaka Marian when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eddies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
