Basketball Recap: Episcopal Comes Up Short

Episcopal played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the Maret Frogs 73-37. The Maroon have struggled against the Frogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Episcopal lost, don't look at Princess Akojenu. Despite the final result, she posted 18 points and five rebounds. Akojenu has been hot, having posted 17 or more points the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Villegas, who scored six points and five boards.

Even though they lost, Episcopal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 18 consecutive matchups.

Maret was led to victory by London Liley and Kennedy Austin. Liley dropped a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Austin almost dropped a double-double with 19 points and nine assists. That's the most boards Liley has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Taylor Lyles, who had nine points in addition to five rebounds and five steals.

Episcopal's record now sits at 11-9. As for Maret, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-8.

Episcopal has already played their next contest, a 50-29 victory against National Cathedral on the 20th. As for Maret, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-60 win against Georgetown Visitation Prep on the 20th.
