Basketball Recap: Southeast Beats Lakewood Ranch for Their Sixth Straight Win

Southeast waltzed into their match on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs, sneaking past 48-45. The team accrued 34 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Southeast got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jalen Byrd out in front who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Byrd has been hot recently, having also posted five or more blocks the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Keith Potter, who posted eight points and 14 boards.

Southeast was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lakewood Ranch only racked up ten assists.

James Butler and Wes Henry certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Butler put up 17 points and five rebounds, while Henry went 7 for 14 en route to 14 points along with eight boards and three blocks.

Southeast has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Lakewood Ranch, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.

Southeast has already played their next game, a 58-53 loss against Lakewood on the 10th. As for Lakewood Ranch, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 78-53 defeat against Gulf Coast on the 11th.
