Baseball Game Preview: Upland Highlanders/Scots vs. Rancho Cucamonga Cougars

For the second straight game, Upland will face off against Rancho Cucamonga. The Highlanders/Scots will challenge the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

The home team had come away the winner the last seven times Upland and Rancho Cucamonga had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Highlanders/Scots came up short against the Cougars on Wednesday, falling 17-4. Highlanders/Scots fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cougars since on Wednesday.

For Rancho Cucamonga's part, they got a great performance from Mason Sanchez as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. What's more, Sanchez posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.

At the plate, Brock Foulds was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jared Sclafani, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Rancho Cucamonga kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Rancho Cucamonga is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Upland, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-10.
