Lewisburg faced Hernando in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Tigers. Winning may never get old, but the Patriots sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Lewisburg got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 16-25, 15-11.
Addison Cole paced Lewisburg's offense, picking up 12 kills. Cole really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 12. Mary Olivia Barnes controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.
Lewisburg's win bumped their record up to 26-8. As for Hernando, their defeat ended a five-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-15.
Lewisburg has already played their next match, a 2-0 loss against Lake Cormorant on the 27th. As for Hernando, they will venture away from home to square off against Southaven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
