Baseball Recap: McLane Takes a Loss

McLane managed to slip by Sunnyside the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Highlanders lost 9-2 to the Wildcats on Thursday. The Highlanders were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 6-5.

McLane got a good showing from Cesar Trujillo Torres, who tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, McLane saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Leland Flores, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases. Flores is becoming a predictor of the Highlanders' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 6-9 when he doesn't).

McLane now has a losing record of 9-10. As for Sunnyside, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season.

McLane will be taking part in a tournament against Sanger at 3:10 p.m. on Saturday. As for Sunnyside, they will head out on the road to challenge Liberty at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Hawks have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season.
