Basketball Recap: Roosevelt Finds Playoff Glory Versus River Ridge

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Roosevelt walked away with it. They walked away with a 67-56 win over the River Ridge Hawks on Saturday. 67 seems to be a good number for the Roughriders as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.

Roosevelt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Clara Swanson out in front who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Swanson has become a key player for Roosevelt: the team is 15-1 when she posts at least ten boards, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Curtis, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and ten rebounds.

Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why River Ridge lost, don't look at Brandi Stanford. Despite the final result, she went 9-for-21 on her way to 21 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That was a full 37.5% of River Ridge's points, marking the third time in a row Stanford has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Mya Armstrong, who scored 14 points and six boards.

Roosevelt's record now sits at 19-9. As for River Ridge, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 20-8.
