Basketball Game Preview: Mountain Valley Falcons vs. Maranacook Black Bears

The Mountain Valley Falcons will challenge the Maranacook Black Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Valley has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 2-1 during that stretch of close contests.

Mountain Valley is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hall-Dale just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 45-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Falcons have suffered since December 23, 2023.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maranacook). They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 71-21 victory over Boothbay. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Black Bears considering their 21-point performance the matchup before.

The win snapped Maranacook's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-5 record. As for Mountain Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Mountain Valley came up short against Maranacook in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, falling 46-37. Can Mountain Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
