Softball Recap: Archbishop McNicholas Takes a Loss

Archbishop McNicholas extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-7 in the process. They came up short against the Badin Rams, falling 12-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Rams this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-3 on Monday.

Archbishop McNicholas saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucy Laudeman, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Badin, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 15-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by seven runs or more this season.

On Badin's side, Kendall P. was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. P. was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Badin got a massive performance out of Mattie Canupp, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Canupp has posted since April 2nd. Erica Kuhnash was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Looking ahead, Archbishop McNicholas will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Williamsburg at 5:00 p.m. The Wildcats' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Rockets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Badin, they will venture away from home to face off against Bellbrook at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rams 2.4, the Golden Eagles 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
