Basketball Game Preview: First Baptist Academy Eagles vs. River City Believers Academy Soldiers

First Baptist Academy is 8-1 against River City Believers Academy since November of 2020 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The First Baptist Academy Eagles will welcome the River City Believers Academy Soldiers at 3:00 p.m. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

First Baptist Academy easily dispatched Allen Academy on Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. First Baptist Academy fell just short of Providence Classical by a score of 46-43 on Saturday.

Despite the defeat, First Baptist Academy got top-tier performance from Matthew Levine, who posted 17 points and six rebounds. That's the most points Levine has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Nathanael Asare, who had five points and four steals.

Meanwhile, River City Believers Academy suffered their closest loss since November 18, 2023 on Thursday. They fell just short of Gateway Christian by a score of 39-36. The Soldiers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

First Baptist Academy will have to contain Brennen McGuire as he made an impact in River City Believers Academy's last game. He almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Averill, who earned ten points.

River City Believers Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for First Baptist Academy, they now have a losing record at 8-9.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: First Baptist Academy has crashing the boards this season, having averaged 25.9 rebounds per game. However, it's not like River City Believers Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.5 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
