Basketball Recap: Boulder Snags Third Win in Last Four Games

If Brighton wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Boulder, they should've done a better job of containing Cole Morrow. The Boulder Panthers walked away with an 83-70 victory over the Brighton Bulldogs on Thursday thanks in part to Morrow, who dropped a double-double on 36 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds.

Lake Smith was another key player, going 6 for 15 on his way to 21 points. His evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points.

Brighton's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vance Martinez, who went 6 of 15 en route to 24 points and six steals. Brighton is 8-3 when Martinez posts three or more steals, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Sickler, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 18 points.

Boulder has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 30.9% in those games and 30.5% outside of them. As for Brighton, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Boulder will venture away from home to take on Northglenn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Brighton, they will head out on the road to face off against Mountain Range at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brighton knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Mountain Range likes a good challenge.
