Basketball Recap: Wiley Skates Past Deer Trail with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wiley). They blew past the Deer Trail Eagles 69-19 on Saturday. With the Panthers ahead 38-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Wiley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Grant Mauch, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to five assists and five steals. Mauch has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Milton Hernandez, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 12 rebounds.

Mauch wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Wiley was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kooper Eldringhoff, who posted eight points.

The victory made it two in a row for Wiley and bumps their season record up to 6-6. As for Deer Trail, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Wiley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-43 loss against Granada on the 1st. Deer Trail has also already played their next contest, a 67-19 defeat against Kiowa on the 28th.
