Preview: Houston Christian Mustangs vs. Trinity Valley Trojans

Houston Christian is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Trinity Valley is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Houston Christian Mustangs will take on the Trinity Valley Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Houston Christian will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.

Houston Christian stacked a fourth blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 47-0 victory over Oakridge. Given Houston Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 402nd, while Oakridge is ranked 1024th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Houston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bret Kilchrist, who threw for 173 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Ewan Highberg was another key contributor, gaining 53 total yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Trinity Valley didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Fort Worth Country Day on Friday, but they still walked away with a 23-19 victory.

Trinity Valley's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gavin Parkhurst, who rushed for 143 yards on only 13 carries. Another player making a difference was Ben Ngishu, who gained 106 total yards and a touchdown.

Their wins bumped Houston Christian to 8-2 and Trinity Valley to 8-1.

We should be in store for an exciting game Saturday as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Houston Christian has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 421.1 total yards per game. However, it's not like Trinity Valley struggles in that department as they've been even better at 444.3 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.

Houston Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Trinity Valley when the teams last played back in September, sneaking past 34-32. Will Houston Christian repeat their success, or does Trinity Valley have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
