Recap: Las Animas Trojans vs. Holly Wildcats
Even though the Las Animas Trojans have not done well against the Holly Wildcats recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Las Animas enjoyed a cozy 45-29 victory over Holly. Given Las Animas' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Holly is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Las Animas found their leader in underclassman Jadann Eck, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava LaBarge, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Holly's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josie Kissell, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Anayi Cerros, who scored eight points along with five steals.
Las Animas' victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Holly, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-6.
Las Animas will be playing at home against Calhan at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Calhan focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 last Saturday. As for Holly, they will head out on the road to square off against Primero at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
