Softball Game Preview: Flint Hill Huskies vs. National Cathedral

Flint Hill is 8-2 against National Cathedral since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Huskies will host National Cathedral at 4:15 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Flint Hill barely beat Georgetown Visitation Prep the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Huskies never let the Cubs get on the board and left with a 6-0 win on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Huskies.

Cate Stanley made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over 6.2 innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Lauren Freireich was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Zaina Gilbert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, National Cathedral had just enough and edged out Sidwell Friends 5-4 on Tuesday. National Cathedral hasn't had any issues with Sidwell Friends recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Ryan Walker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, National Cathedral's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Andie Gerson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Another was Viola Sinbondit, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory got National Cathedral back to even at 1-1. Flint Hill has also opened the season with a perfect 2-0 record.
