Softball Recap: Mccollum Continues Road Dominance on Friday

McCollum barely beat Jay the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. McCollum never let Jay get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Cowboys, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to RUIZ MADELYNN's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, SORAYA TORRES was incredible, firing off two home runs, four RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was MARTINEZ LAUREN, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

TORRES wasn't the only one working in the home run department: McCollum lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

McCollum pushed their record up to 12-3 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Jay, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. McCollum is set to challenge their familiar foe Southside at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (McCollum 3.2, Southside 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Jay will take on rival Southwest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
