Basketball Recap: York Institute Takes a Loss

After flying high against Monterey last Monday, York Institute came back down to earth. The York Institute Dragons were outmatched by the Stone Memorial Panthers and fell 70-31. The Dragons have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Stone Memorial was led to victory by Cade Capps and Jack Cordell. Capps went 10 of 19 en route to 20 points and four steals, while Cordell went 7 for 10 on his way to 16 points and six boards. Capps is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 17 or more in the last 26 games he's played dating back to last season. Kadyn Page was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

York Institute's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Stone Memorial, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. York Institute will host Watertown at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Stone Memorial, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Upperman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Stone Memorial has won 11 straight at home dating back to last season, while Upperman won five straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
