Softball Recap: Riverside University/Meir's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Riverside University/Meir dropped their record down to 8-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Milwaukee Reagan Huskies, falling 16-5. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against Milwaukee Reagan this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in April.

Riverside University/Meir saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chaeli Gutzmann, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for Milwaukee Reagan, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. Considering they have won 13 contests by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Milwaukee Reagan's side, Brooke Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Scott has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted over her last 11 matches.

In other batting news, Mya Merced was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Alyssa Frank-Kuzmiuk was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Riverside University/Meir will head out to take on Greendale at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Milwaukee Reagan, they will venture away from home to challenge Milwaukee King at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Generals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.73 runs per game on average), something the Huskies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
