Softball Game Preview: Lakeside Dragons vs. Struthers Wildcats

The Lakeside Dragons are taking a road trip to square off against the Struthers Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Neither Lakeside nor Struthers posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Lakeside fell victim to Jefferson Area and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 15-0 to the Falcons. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Dragons were not able to get on the board.

Lakeside saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lyla Hamilton, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base. Hamilton has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Meanwhile, Struthers was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They came up short against Hubbard, falling 10-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 28, 2024, but that streak is no more.

Struthers' defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Lakeside, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Lakeside was able to grind out a solid win over Struthers in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, winning 12-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
