Recap: Stratford Spartans vs. Summer Creek Bulldogs
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Stratford Spartans, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They had to suffer through a rough 52-15 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs. Stratford's loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Aaron Deleon threw for 189 yards and two touchdowns. Hunter Biehl was his top target, picking up 56 receiving yards. On the ground, Derrick Mcgee rushed for 50 yards.
Summer Creek was led to victory by Lloyd Avant and Blake Thomas. Avant rushed for 188 yards and three touchdowns, while Thomas rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Avant is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Stratford to a paltry 243 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Summer Creek's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out five times before it was all said and done. Kaleb Walker was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Stratford's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Summer Creek, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-1.
Stratford does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Summer Creek is on the road again on Saturday and play against Fort Bend Hightower at 2:00 p.m. on December 2nd. Fort Bend Hightower's defense has only allowed 15.4 points per game this season, so Summer Creek's offense will have their work cut out for Summer Creek.
