Basketball Recap: Akiryon Watkins Key Part of a Team Effort in Gators Win

Bulloch Academy hadn't done well against Frederica Academy recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bulloch Academy Gators enjoyed a cozy 55-41 win over Frederica Academy. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Gators' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 352nd, while Frederica Academy are ranked 170th).

Bulloch Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akiryon Watkins, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 boards. With that strong performance, Watkins is now averaging an impressive 9 rebounds per game. Another player making a difference was Keonte Mayner, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten boards.

Bulloch Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

The victory made it two in a row for Bulloch Academy and bumps their season record up to 6-8. As for Frederica Academy, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-4.

Bulloch Academy has already played their next match, a 59-53 win against Claxton on the 18th. As for Frederica Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 65-35 victory against Pinewood Christian on the 24th.
