Basketball Game Preview: Highland Tech Rams vs. South Point Red Raiders

Highland Tech hasn't had much luck against South Point recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 6:00 p.m. Highland Tech is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52 points per game this season.

Highland Tech is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Thursday. They took a hard 69-53 fall against Burns. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while the Bulldogs are ranked 146th).

Highland Tech's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Elijah Sherrill, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 27 points and five rebounds, and Cooper McCraw, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 14 points and five blocks. That was a full 50.9% of Highland Tech's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Erwing Sosa, who put up four points and five assists.

Meanwhile, South Point didn't have quite enough to beat Ashbrook on Friday and fell 66-64. The Red Raiders have struggled against the Greenwave recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Highland Tech now has a losing record at 4-5. As for South Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Highland Tech came up short against South Point when the teams last played back in November of 2019, falling 79-75. Thankfully for Highland Tech, Logan Threatt (who went 12 of 24 on his way to 28 points and three steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
