Softball Recap: Avon Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Wayland-Cohocton typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Avon proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over the Eagles. For the Braves, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2021.

Jessie Crye spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than 11 strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kyleigh DeRider, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Rylie Miller was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Avon's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Wayland-Cohocton, their defeat ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-3.

Coming up, Avon will take on Wellsville at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Braves 1.3, the Lions 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Wayland-Cohocton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
