Volleyball Recap: Boardman Spartans vs. Girard Indians
Boardman unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell just short of the Girard Indians by a score of 3-2 on Monday. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Boardman actually scored more points across those five sets (108-92), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 8-25, 18-25, 26-24, 15-13.
Natalie Ludban paced Boardman's offense, picking up ten kills. Ludban got some help from Gianna Commons and her 21 assists. Commons also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Sadie Satterfield, racking up five apiece.
Girard's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloe Plant, who had eight digs and three aces. That's the most aces Plant has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Khloe Pieton, who had eight digs, five kills, and three aces.
The win got Girard back to even at 1-1.
Boardman has already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Louisville on the 20th. As for Girard, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Struthers on the 19th.
