Baseball Recap: Berthoud Gets the Win

Berthoud never let their opponents score on Saturday. They skirted past the Frederick Golden Eagles 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since May 3, 2025.

The result came thanks to Anderson Austin's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Berthoud is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-12 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Wyatt Barmes, who went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Eli Richardson, who got on base in both of his plate appearances with two runs.

Berthoud's victory bumped their record up to 7-13. As for Frederick, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-17.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Berthoud will challenge Mountain View at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Frederick, they will face off against Legacy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lightning Bolt have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season.
