Volleyball Recap: Tonopah Valley Phoenix vs. Florence Gophers

Tonopah Valley had lost five straight at home dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 0-3 to make it six. They lost 3-0 to the Florence Gophers. If the Phoenix were looking for revenge after losing 3-0 to the Gophers when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Morgan Green paced Tonopah Valley's offense, picking up four kills. Green got some help from Loraina Bonesteel and her six assists. Finally, Carley King and Kris Webb kept the team grounded on defense, each having blocked two attacks.

As for Florence, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The game was the first time they have beaten Tonopah Valley on their court since September 16, 2016.

Lexie Hoffman was nothing short of spectacular: she had 17 digs and seven aces. Those seven aces gave her a new career-high. Ava Acu?a also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Tonopah Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Highland Prep on the 11th. As for Florence, they have also already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against Sage Hill on the 12th.
