Preview: Marist War Eagles vs. South Cobb Eagles
Marist is 4-0 against South Cobb since December of 2022, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Marist War Eagles' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the South Cobb Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Even though Marist has not done well against Lithonia recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Marist came out on top against Lithonia by a score of 56-47. Given Marist's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while Lithonia is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owen Ritger and Jackson Harkness were among the main playmakers for Marist as the former scored 15 points along with five rebounds and the latter scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Harpring, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, South Cobb was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Tuesday as they fell 66-62 to North Atlanta.
Marist has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for South Cobb, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Marist skirted past South Cobb 53-50 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was South Cobb's Aj Horton, who scored 17 points.
