Basketball Recap: West Ashley Takes a Loss

West Ashley lost against Berkeley two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The West Ashley Wildcats came up short against the Berkeley Stags, falling 60-35. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Stags are ranked 34th).

When it comes to explaining why West Ashley lost, don't look at Ella Crowe. Despite the final result, she posted six points along with ten rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Crowe a new career-high in assists (four). Gabbie Chinnis was another key player, putting up six points along with six boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, West Ashley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Leading Berkeley to victory were Demi Gray and Amani Mccray. Gray had 12 points and three steals, while Mccray almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 boards. Gray has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Thomas, who put up ten points and five rebounds.

West Ashley now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Berkeley, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.

West Ashley will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Indian Land at 5:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for Berkeley, they will host Philip Simmons at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Philip Simmons has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while Berkeley will come in with three straight victories.
