Basketball Game Preview: Bennett Tigers vs. Highland Huskies

The Bennett Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Highland Huskies at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Bennett has nine straight wins, Highland has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

It was a proper cat-fight when Bennett faced off against Lake County on Wednesday. Bennett took down Lake County 75-61. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Panthers are ranked 276th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bennett got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Owen Stiers out in front who went 9-for-20 en route to 26 points and three steals. Stiers' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Ivory, who went 6-for-8 on his way to 12 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Highland played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 69-41 defeat at the hands of Resurrection Christian. The Huskies were down 56-29 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Highland's loss dropped their record down to 14-4. As for Bennett, they pushed their record up to 16-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Bennett took a serious blow against Highland in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, falling 70-41. Can Bennett avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
