Basketball Recap: Willcox Comes Up Short

Willcox was the 50-44 winner over Tombstone when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Willcox Cowboys took a 61-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Tombstone Yellow Jackets on Friday. The Cowboys have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Willcox saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jahir Reyes went 6 of 15 on his way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. That's the most points Reyes has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JD Whetten, who posted nine points along with five rebounds and five steals.

Willcox's record is now 11-10. As for Tombstone, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-14.

Willcox has already played their next match, a 57-49 win against San Miguel on the 28th. As for Tombstone, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-49 victory against Patagonia on the 27th.
