Preview: Athenian Owls vs. College Prep Cougars
Athenian has been on the road for eight straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the College Prep Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Athenian posted their biggest victory yet this season on Wednesday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 57-24 victory over Redwood Christian. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 35-7.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Athenian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Evan Lucas, who scored 16 points. Lucas has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Surya Devasenapathy, who scored 13 points.
Meanwhile, College Prep had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.3 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 72-44 win over Bentley at home.
Athenian is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for College Prep, they pushed their record up to 9-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.
Athenian strolled past College Prep when the teams last played back in February of 2023 by a score of 64-45. Does Athenian have another victory up their sleeve, or will College Prep turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
