Baseball Recap: Forreston Cardinals vs. Galena Pirates
Forreston fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Galena on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 7-5. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.
Kendall Erdmann put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over 6.1 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
In other batting news, Carson Akins made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run. Another player making a difference was Darin Greenfield, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Forreston's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-10. As for Galena, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Forreston will head out to challenge Polo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Galena, they will venture away from home to square off against Eastland at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
