Softball Recap: Herscher Takes a Loss

Herscher extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 12-8 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Coal City Coalers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coalers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-15 on Monday.

Liv Wilkins made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

As for Coal City, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.

On Coal City's side, Masyn Kuder spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits.

At the plate, Coal City let Addison Hodgen and DArcy Ness run wild. Hodgen went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Ness went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Those two doubles gave Ness a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Khloe Picard, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Herscher has already played their next match, a 6-2 win against Yorkville Christian on the 30th. As for Coal City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 9-4 defeat against Seneca on the 30th.
