The Mason County Central Spartans will challenge the Pine River Area Bucks at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Mason County Central is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Bear Lake 17-2 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Mason County Central let Jordyn Melvin and Mikaylah McVicker run wild. Melvin scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while McVicker scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. McVicker also put up a hit, which was her first of the season. Madi Sherretz was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.
Mason County Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Pine River Area put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Manistee as they made off with a 19-2 victory. Fans of the Bucks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Brook Dempkey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Dempkey was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Pine River Area got a massive performance out of Kylee Mumby, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Lilly Felsk, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
Pine River Area pushed their record up to 4-0 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Mason County Central, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mason County Central has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pine River Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
