Basketball Recap: Rowe Comes Up Short

Rowe was the 41-26 winner over Sharyland when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Rowe Warriors took a 47-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sharyland Rattlers on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Warriors came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 147th, while the Rattlers are ranked 543rd).

Sharyland found their leader in freshman Jayleen Berlanga, who went 9 for 10 on her way to 25 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for Berlanga. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariajose Gomez, who posted ten points and eight rebounds.

Rowe has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 20-4 record this season. As for Sharyland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest the next time they take the court. Sharyland will head out to face Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Rowe will host them at 6:00 p.m. on December 20th.
