Softball Recap: Garey Falls Short of El Monte in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Garey can now relate to. They fell just short of the El Monte Lions by a score of 9-7 on Saturday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Vikings have suffered since April 10th.

Emily Melendez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched 6.1 innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits. Melendez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Valerie Jimenez and Micaela Ortiz did some serious damage despite the final result: Jimenez went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Ortiz went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Garey's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for El Monte, their win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7.

Garey does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for El Monte, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Westminster at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Westminster will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something El Monte surely won't give up without a fight.
