The Cuthbertson Cavaliers will venture away from home to take on the South Mecklenburg Sabres at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cuthbertson's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so South Mecklenburg's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Tuesday, Cuthbertson was able to grind out a solid victory over Central Academy, taking the game 5-2.
Georgia McConnell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Caroline Petroff was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Emma Jarrett was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, South Mecklenburg got themselves on the board against Berry on Tuesday, but Berry never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Cardinals. Considering the Sabres have won seven games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Sofia Vayo looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tia Montgomery, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Huss, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
South Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .708. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
The win made it two in a row for South Mecklenburg and bumps their season record up to 9-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Cuthbertson, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cuthbertson has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .461. However, it's not like South Mecklenburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .500. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
