Baseball Recap: Fisher Takes a Loss

Fisher extended their losing streak to 13 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-14 in the process. They lost 17-2 to the Deer Creek-Mackinaw Chiefs. The Bunnies were not able to make up for their loss to the Chiefs from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Fisher saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Arndt, who went 1-for-2 with one double. Caleb Zwilling also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-9 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Deer Creek-Mackinaw's side, Jerry Hahn looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hahn also tossed a walk, which is notable because the Chiefs are 3-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 7-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Chuck Hathaway was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Deer Creek-Mackinaw: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-8 otherwise. Brody Williams was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Coming up, Fisher will welcome Fieldcrest at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Deer Creek-Mackinaw, they will head out on the road to square off against Peoria Notre Dame at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
