Richard Stallworth of Yuma Catholic, Jef Hoenstine of Central (Martinsburg) could break state career marks this season.

While the lost COVID season of 2020 limited high school football seasons and prevented a number of players from threatening state records, MaxPreps has found 10 players who could finish their careers as state record holders by the end of the 2022 season.

Here's a look at the 10 potential record breakers.

1. Richard Stallworth, Yuma Catholic (Yuma, Ariz.)
Already a state record holder, Stallworth broke the single-season record for touchdown passes with 67, passing Yuma Catholic alum Gage Reese's mark of 64. Now, Stallworth could erase the career marks held by Spencer Rattler and Chase Cord. Stallworth, who threw for 306 yards and four touchdowns in the Shamrocks' season opener, has 8,972 yards passing in his career with 554 completions, 830 attempts and 120 touchdowns. Based on last year's performance (319 of 479, 4,863 yards, 67 touchdowns), Stallworth could break the career marks of Rattler (764 completions, 1,224 attempts, and 11,083 yards. Cord holds the career touchdown mark with 137.

2. Jeff Hoenstine, Central (Martinsburg, Pa.)
While most of the career passing yardage, attempts and completion marks are out of reach for Hoenstine, he could break the record for touchdown passes. With 99 in his career following four touchdowns in his first two games this year, Hoenstine needs just 39 to break the state record of 137 career touchdown passes by Matt Bodamer of Port Allegany. Last year, Hoenstine tossed 57 touchdown passes during Central's 14-1 season.

3. Lincoln Kienholz, Riggs (Pierre, S.D.)
As a junior, Kienholz set the state single-season passing yardage mark with 3,359. Now he takes aim at the career yardage record of 7,952 by Nick Wald of St. Thomas More. Kienholz has 717 yards and nine touchdowns in two games and 6,395 yards in his career. The state career touchdown pass record of 101 by Nate Jackson of St. Thomas More is also in danger with Kienholz (67) sitting 35 away. He had 37 touchdown passes last year.

4. Jarrett Wilson, Polson (Mont.)
Wilson is rapidly closing in on the state career touchdown passing mark of 101, held by Dane Warp of Havre. Wilson had 48 touchdowns last year and 32 as a sophomore. He's 14 away from breaking the state record after already tossing eight touchdowns in 2022.

5. Cayden Walton, Raton (N.M.)
The New Mexico career state rushing record of 7,170 yards, set by David McGee of Laguna Acoma, is within reach of Walton. He has 818 yards in three games this year and 5,666 yards for his career.

6. Treyvion Holly, Union Parish (Farmerville, La.)
With 7,911 rushing yards in his career following an 82-yard outing in his first game, Holley is less than 1,000 yards away from breaking the mark of 8,806 yards set by Nick Brossette of University Lab. With 943 career carries, Holley is just 200 away from breaking Brossette's mark of 1,142 rushing attempts. Holley set the single-season state record for touchdowns (48) and points (312) last year. With 122 career touchdowns and 828 points, he can surpasses Brossette's marks of 164 touchdowns and 984 points.

7. Jaden Gibson, Rabun County (Tiger, Ga.)
Last year, Gibson caught 86 passes for 1,878 yards and 19 touchdowns. While he might not approach those records after the graduation of state player of the year, quarterback Gunnar Stockton, he's already off to a good start with 25 catches for 493 yards and eight touchdowns. He has 190 catches for 3,667 yards and 37 touchdowns. He could break the state record of 4,477 yards by Valdosta's Stan Rome and the 272 receptions and 48 touchdowns by Travis Hunter of Collins Hill.

8. Kyle Ferrie, Harding Academy (Searcy, Ark.)
Ferrie set the state record for single-season kicking points last year with 117. Now, he's got the career mark of 295 points within reach. He has 225 kicking points in his career, including 18 this year. He could also break the career field goals record of 35 by Todd Bryan of Bryant. Ferrie has 24 in his career, including 13 last year and three this year.

9. Vaughn Anderson, Bennington (Neb.)
Andy Bayne of Millard North set the career extra points record in Nebraska with 178. However, Anderson kicked 77 last year and has 115 in his career after booting 11 in Bennington's first two games.

10. Zane Flores, Gretna (Neb.)
Flores has thrown for 6,398 yards in his four-year varsity career, including 352 in his first two games this year. After throwing for 2,885 yards last year, Flores has a shot at breaking the state career passing yardage record of 8,451 yards by Alec Ditoro of Papillion-LaVista. He also has a shot at the career completions, attempts and touchdown marks.
