Softball Game Preview: Eastern Guilford Wildcats vs. Southern Guilford Storm

The Eastern Guilford Wildcats will venture away from home to face off against the Southern Guilford Storm at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Eastern Guilford has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Eastern Guilford came up short against Southeast Guilford on Wednesday, falling 15-5. The loss continues a trend for the Wildcats in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost three in a row.

Hayley Scott made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Southern Guilford made easy work of Atkins on Friday and carried off a 12-2 victory. Considering the Storm have won seven contests by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kenly Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Brown was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Misenhiemer, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Bailey Gray also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Southern Guilford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Atkins only posted an OBP of .333.

Southern Guilford is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Eastern Guilford, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-9.

Eastern Guilford suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Southern Guilford when the teams last played back in March. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
