Basketball Game Preview: Bishop Gorman Gaels vs. Mater Dei Monarchs

Bishop Gorman hasn't had much luck against Mater Dei recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Bishop Gorman Gaels are taking a road trip to challenge the Mater Dei Monarchs at 7:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Mater Dei will be up against a hot Bishop Gorman team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Bishop Gorman took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 71-21 win over Palo Verde. Given the Gaels' advantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while the Panthers are ranked 53rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Mater Dei really took it to Orange Lutheran for the full four quarters, racking up a 77-35 victory. The win was nothing new for the Monarchs as they're now sitting on ten straight.

Bishop Gorman's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.8 points per game. As for Mater Dei, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-2 record this season.

Bishop Gorman lost to Mater Dei on the road by a decisive 61-46 margin in their previous meeting back in January of 2020. Can Bishop Gorman avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
