Basketball Recap: Greenwood Christian Find Success

Greenwood Christian saw some tournament action on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 64-63 win over the McCormick Chiefs.

Ty Kennedy continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, shooting 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropping a double-double on 37 points and 16 boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Greenwood Christian's points. Leland Reed was another key player, putting up 16 points along with eight boards and three steals.

When it comes to explaining why McCormick lost, don't look at Terrence Cartledge. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 33 points and 22 rebounds. Cartledge is becoming a predictor of McCormick's success: when he posts at least eight boards the team is undefeated (and 1-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Demontae Wideman, who posted 13 points.

Greenwood Christian's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for McCormick, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.

Greenwood Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 73-59 defeat against Greenwood on the 28th. As for McCormick, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-47 win against Saluda on the 28th.
