Basketball Game Preview: Clear Brook Wolverines vs. Deer Park Deer

Two dominant guards in Kamryn Mclaurin and Shelby Tortorici are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Clear Brook Wolverines will face off against the Deer Park Deer at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Clear Brook knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Deer Park likes a good challenge.

Clear Brook is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Dickinson just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Gators by a score of 64-61. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Wolverines came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Gators are ranked 89th).

Meanwhile, Deer Park was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 54-48 to Clear Creek.

Clear Brook will have to contain Erin Goodson as she made an impact in Deer Park's last game. She posted three points along with eight steals, six assists, and five boards. That's the most rebounds Goodson has posted since back in December of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Harms, who put up ten points.

Even though they lost, Deer Park smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Deer Park's defeat dropped their record down to 14-14. As for Clear Brook, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 26-3.

Clear Brook skirted past Deer Park 54-51 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clear Brook since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
