Softball Recap: Brentwood Drops Season-High Score on Ellis

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Brentwood). They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over Ellis on Thursday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Spartans with their most commanding win of the season.

Emma Thompson made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Paige Boehm was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Abbey Fickley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Brentwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .314 or higher in five consecutive games.

Brentwood has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Ellis, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.

Coming up, Brentwood will face off against Seton LaSalle at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Ellis, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Jeannette at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
