Volleyball Recap: Wharton Wildcats vs. Wiregrass Ranch Bulls

Wharton and Wiregrass Ranch squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Wharton had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Wiregrass Ranch Bulls by a score of 3-2. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulls apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.

Wharton wouldn't go down easily and took Wiregrass Ranch into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 22-25, 13-25, 25-20, 15-7.

Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lauren Galfond, who had 12 digs and 31 assists. Galfond has been hot recently, having posted 18 or more assists the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Talbot, who had eight digs and three aces.

She wasn't the only good server: Wharton was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in four consecutive matches.

The defeat snapped Wharton's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-7 record. As for Wiregrass Ranch, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.

Wharton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Wiregrass Ranch, they will square off against Bloomingdale at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
