Basketball Game Preview: Skyline Eagles vs. Cottonwood Colts

Skyline and Cottonwood are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. Both will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Skyline will bounce into Saturday's game after beating Mountain View, who they had gone 0-3 against in their three prior meetings. Skyline walked away with a 60-50 victory over Mountain View on Friday.

Skyline's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Andrew Lindquist led the charge by going 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cameron Wilson, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 17 points.

Meanwhile, Cottonwood waltzed into their matchup on Friday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 56-45. 56 seems to be a good number for the Colts as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Cottonwood's win came from a few key players Skyline will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Malei Atem, who went 6 of 8 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. Those 15 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tengis Bayasgalan, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 15 points.

Cottonwood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Cottonwood's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Skyline, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Skyline skirted past Cottonwood 65-62 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cottonwood's Luke Park, who went 10 of 17 on his way to 25 points and five steals.
