Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is La Veta's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

While La Veta put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Custer County. The Redhawks were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Bobcats. The result was nothing new for the Redhawks, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Lukas Ozzello made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, La Veta got a massive performance out of Logan Cortez, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The Redhawks are undefeated when Cortez posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Logan Tenorio, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

La Veta kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.1 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.2.

La Veta is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Custer County, they now have a losing record of 7-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: La Veta beat the Bobcats by a score of 22-13 later that day.
