Basketball Recap: Sawyer Goggin Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Classical Academy

Calvin Christian had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 5-3 to make it four. Everything went their way against the Classical Academy Caimans as they made off with a 68-46 win. The Crusaders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season.

Calvin Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sawyer Goggin out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 29 points and nine rebounds. Goggin is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in each of the last eight games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Garrett Becker, who went 7-for-12 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points.

Calvin Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've passed the ball that well.

As for Classical Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. They haven't had much luck with Calvin Christian recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Several Caimans players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Zachary Meister, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan French, who put up nine points.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvin Christian will be home for the holidays to greet The Cambridge School at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crusaders will be up against the Griffins' rather soft defense (which has allowed 52.57 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Classical Academy, they will be playing at home against Del Lago Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
