Softball Preview: Lake Park Lancers vs. South Elgin Storm

The Lake Park Lancers will challenge the South Elgin Storm at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lake Park is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Gianna Furlano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Ariana O'Connell was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run. Sofia Zepeda was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Elgin). They never let Aurora East get on the board and left with a 26-0 win on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Storm considering their one-run performance the game before.

Grace Krabbe was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Krabbe was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Chloe Ricard, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and four RBI. Those five runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Emma Bell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

South Elgin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Lake Park's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. As for South Elgin, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
